England winger Tom Roebuck has defended the spirit inside the England national rugby union team camp, insisting the squad is “sticking together, not cracking up” despite a difficult campaign in the Six Nations Championship.
England have come under heavy scrutiny following a series of disappointing performances in the tournament, including defeats against rivals such as Scotland national rugby union team, Ireland national rugby union team and Italy national rugby union team. The setbacks have raised questions about the tactics and leadership of head coach Steve Borthwick.
However, Roebuck says the narrative outside the squad does not reflect the reality inside the dressing room.
“From the outside it might look like things are cracking up, but inside we are sticking together,” Roebuck said.
The winger also defended England’s tactical approach, particularly their heavy use of tactical kicking and aerial contests. According to Roebuck, the strategy requires precision and teamwork, and when executed correctly it can give England a strong territorial advantage.
Rather than abandoning the game plan, the squad believes the key lies in improving execution and maintaining belief. Roebuck stressed that the players remain committed to Borthwick’s vision and are determined to finish the championship strongly.
With the tournament nearing its conclusion, England hope to turn criticism into motivation and show that the team’s unity can still produce results on the field.
