Sikandar Raza struck a superb 73 off 43 balls to anchor Zimbabwe’s innings against South Africa in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
During his stay at the crease — from 4.3 to 16.3 overs — Raza hit 12 of Zimbabwe’s 13 boundaries, carrying the bulk of the scoring as the side posted 153-7.
South Africa moved efficiently through the rest of the batting order, limiting contributions at the other end.
Maphaka makes his mark
Nineteen-year-old left-arm quick Kwena Maphaka impressed with figures of 2-21 from his four overs. He consistently reached the low 140kph range and extracted movement with both the new and old ball.
Maphaka’s final over was particularly telling — conceding just six runs and dismissing Raza with a cleverly disguised slower ball.
With Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen rested ahead of the semi-finals, South Africa handed opportunities to their bench players — and the replacements responded strongly.
South Africa, already assured of a semi-final place, are aiming to complete the group stage unbeaten.
