Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is set to miss up to two months after suffering a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s win over Tottenham Hotspur. The Brazilian limped off late on at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in just his second game back from an ankle problem, dealing a significant blow to head coach Eddie Howe.
Captain Suffers Fresh Fitness Blow Guimaraes had only recently returned to action when he pulled up in the closing stages of the 2-1 victory. Howe admitted post-match that the midfielder was concerned, having never previously experienced hamstring trouble. Medical assessments have since indicated a lay-off of around eight weeks.
Statistics Highlight His Importance The 26-year-old has scored nine goals this season and remains central to Newcastle’s system. Since his debut in February 2022, the Magpies have failed to win any of the 10 Premier League matches he has missed. With him in the side, they hold a 53.1% win rate, average 1.8 points per game, score 1.9 goals per match and concede just 1.2 on average.
Midfield Depth Set To Be Tested Newcastle now face a demanding run of fixtures, beginning with Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Aston Villa at Villa Park. Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey are currently the only senior central midfielders available, though there is hope Joelinton will soon return from a groin injury and Lewis Miley’s issue is not long term.
