Vadodara: Delhi Capitals marched into their fourth successive Women’s Premier League final with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator on Tuesday.
Chasing 169 for victory, the Capitals made light work of the target, racing to 169/3 in just 15.4 overs, with 26 balls to spare, riding on a dominant top-order display and a calm finish from skipper Jemimah Rodrigues.
Openers Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee laid the foundation with an aggressive 89-run partnership, breaking the back of the chase during the Powerplay. Though both fell in quick succession, Delhi never lost control of the contest.
Rodrigues anchored the innings with a fluent 41 off 23 balls, striking the ball cleanly and rotating the strike with ease. She found able support in Laura Wolvaardt, as the pair ensured there were no late hiccups on a batting-friendly surface.
Earlier, Gujarat Giants recovered from early damage to post a competitive 168, thanks largely to Beth Mooney’s steady knock and a late flourish alongside Georgia Wareham.
However, Gujarat’s bowlers failed to apply sustained pressure, with only Wareham managing to make inroads during the chase.
The comprehensive win sets up a final showdown against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a rematch of the 2024 WPL final, where Delhi will be desperate to finally go one step further and lift their maiden title.
