Hockey India Championship 2026 Sees Thrilling CAG Comeback

The Hockey India Championship 2026 produced another dramatic contest in Hyderabad as the Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) came from 1-4 down to defeat Sports Authority of India (SAI) 5-4 at the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium.

CAG survived a major scare before completing the comeback, with Parmod and Manjeet scoring twice each, while H Thrishul Ganapathi also found the net. SAI’s goals came from Sunil, who scored twice, along with Sunil Jojo and Sunit Lakra.

The result added another high-scoring encounter to the sixth edition of the Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship.

Hockey India Championship 2026: CAG Fight Back From 1-4 Down

CAG appeared to be heading towards defeat after SAI established a three-goal advantage. However, the CAG attack found another gear and gradually turned the contest around.

Parmod and Manjeet were the key figures in the comeback, with both players scoring twice. Thrishul Ganapathi added the other goal as CAG completed a remarkable 5-4 victory.

The comeback was particularly important after CAG had already started its campaign strongly, beating CRPF 4-1 in an earlier Pool B encounter. Thrishul Ganapathi scored twice in that match, with Parmod and Tiras K also on target.

PSPB and CRPF Register Big Wins

While CAG had to fight until the final whistle, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) enjoyed a much more comfortable outing.

PSPB defeated Central Secretariat 8-1, with Gurjot Singh and Sudeep Chirmako scoring twice each. Ravneet Singh, Devindar Walmiki, Manpreet and Varun Kumar also contributed goals.

CRPF produced the biggest winning margin of the day, defeating Defence Accounts Sports Control Board 10-0.

Mohd Wasiullah Khan, Abhishek and Gurmehakdeep Singh all scored twice for CRPF, while Lovepreet Singh, Lovejeet Singh, Deepak and Harish Pal completed the scoring.

Hockey India Championship 2026 Produces More High-Scoring Games

The Hyderabad championship continued to deliver attacking hockey across the pools.

Services Sports Control Board defeated All India Police Sports Control Board 3-2, while Sashastra Seema Bal went down 2-4 to ITBP Central Hockey Team.

In another close encounter, SPSB and UBI finished 1-1. Railway Sports Promotion Board also recorded a commanding 5-1 win over Food Corporation of India, while Canara Bank edged Tamil Nadu Police 3-2.

The results underline the competitive nature of the inter-department championship, with several teams producing high-scoring performances.

CAG Continue Strong Start in Hyderabad

The Hockey India Championship 2026 campaign has already provided CAG with two impressive victories.

After defeating CRPF 4-1 in their opening Pool B fixture, CAG followed it with the dramatic 5-4 victory over SAI. Their ability to recover from a three-goal deficit will provide considerable confidence as the competition progresses.

With the tournament continuing in Hyderabad, the focus will now shift towards the next round of pool matches and the teams fighting for progression.
