Lahore: Pakistan made a strong start to the T20I series against Australia with a convincing 22-run win in the first match at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match contest.
Saim Ayub And Salman Ali Agha Stabilise Pakistan Innings
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Pakistan recovered from an early setback to post a competitive 168 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed on the very first ball, but Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha rebuilt the innings with a crucial partnership. Ayub scored a quick 40 off 22 balls, while Agha contributed 39 off 27, providing momentum in the middle overs. Captain Babar Azam added useful runs as Pakistan managed to set a challenging target.
Disciplined Bowling Restricts Australia
Chasing 169, Australia struggled to gain momentum against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack and were restricted to 146 for 8 in 20 overs. Pakistan’s spinners applied pressure through the middle overs, picking up key wickets and slowing the scoring rate. Although a few Australian batters attempted to revive the chase, the required run rate proved too steep in the final overs.
All-Round Effort Seals Pakistan Victory
Pakistan’s balanced performance with both bat and ball proved decisive, as regular breakthroughs ensured Australia never fully threatened the target. The hosts maintained control throughout the second innings with tight lines, sharp fielding, and timely wickets.
Focus Shifts To Second T20I
With this win, Pakistan move ahead in the series and will look to build on their momentum in the second T20I, while Australia will aim to bounce back and level the contest.
