Ranchi: In a stunning display of attacking hockey, Ranchi Royals delivered one of the most emphatic performances of the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL) 2025-26, thumping Shrachi Bengal Tigers 5-0 in their second league match on Tuesday. The dominant victory saw Ranchi take the early initiative in the standings with a performance that thrilled the home crowd.
From the outset, the Royals dictated play, creating chances and keeping their opponents on the back foot. They managed 17 circle entries in the first half alone, underscoring their control over proceedings.
Swift Start and Early Fireworks
Hannah Cotter opened the scoring in the 10th minute, capitalising on a well-weighted pass from Sakshi Rana to slot home the opener.
Just four minutes later, Beauty Dungdung extended the lead with a fierce finish off a penalty corner rebound, giving Ranchi a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Midfield Mojo and Second-Half Surge
Lucina von der Heyde continued the onslaught with a composed strike in the 33rd minute, showcasing excellent skill and movement.
The Royals’ momentum stayed strong as Sangita Kumari found the net in the 44th minute, doubling down on Ranchi’s upper hand.
Sealing the Win
To round off a brilliant attacking display, von der Heyde added her second of the evening in the 57th minute, finishing off another set-piece chance and drawing loud cheers from supporters.
“The belief in our attack was huge today — we stuck to our structure and took our chances brilliantly,” a Ranchi Royals player was quoted reflecting on the team’s performance .
On the other hand, Shrachi Bengal Tigers struggled to find rhythm despite moments of resilience. They earned a couple of penalty corner opportunities but couldn’t convert them into goals, leaving them searching for answers as they regroup for their next challenge.
With this victory, Ranchi Royals not only stamped their authority but also set a marker for others in this competitive season of Women’s HIL 2025.
