New Delhi: Aarti Pal has created history by becoming the first yogasana athlete to be recommended for the Arjuna Award, marking a major milestone for the sport in India. The recommendation, reported by Hindustan Times, reflects the growing recognition of yogasana as a competitive discipline on the national stage.
Hailing from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Aarti’s journey is closely tied to the rise of yogasana as a modern sport. According to Hindustan Times, she has been a consistent national champion since 2022 and has also won multiple medals at the Asian level, establishing herself as one of the finest exponents of the discipline.
“Yogasana getting this kind of recognition is a proud moment not just for me, but for the entire community,” Aarti was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times, underlining how the recommendation goes beyond individual achievement.
Yogasana was formally recognised by the Sports Ministry only a few years ago, and Aarti’s recommendation is being seen as a breakthrough moment. As Hindustan Times noted, her success highlights how non-traditional sports are slowly finding space alongside mainstream disciplines in India’s sporting honours.
If confirmed, the Arjuna Award would not only crown Aarti Pal’s remarkable career but also signal a new chapter for yogasana in the country’s competitive sports landscape.
