What began as an idea in a school playground in Pune has today become a symbol of India’s growing imprint on global sport. Roll Ball — invented in 2003 by Raju Dabhade while he was a sports teacher at MES Bal Shikshan Mandir — has evolved from a classroom innovation into a world championship spectacle. Two decades on, India is not just the birthplace of the sport; it remains its undisputed standard-bearer.
That legacy was emphatically reinforced at the 7th Roll Ball World Cup 2025 in Dubai, where India scripted history by winning both the men’s and women’s titles, completing a rare and celebrated Double Crown. In a tournament defined by speed, skill and nerve, India showed why the world continues to chase the benchmark it set.

The women’s team delivered a performance built on composure and control, edging past reigning champions Kenya 3–2 in a tense final to deny them a hat-trick of titles. It was India’s third Women’s World Cup crown, drawing them level with Kenya and reaffirming their consistency at the top level.
If the women showed calm authority, the men produced drama. Trailing 3–8 at halftime against Kenya, India mounted a stunning comeback, clawing their way back into the contest before snatching an unforgettable 11–10 victory in the dying moments. The win restored India’s dominance and secured a record fifth men’s world title, reclaiming the crown they had lost in 2023.

Roll Ball’s rise mirrors India’s journey with the sport. Conceived as a fast-paced blend of roller skating, basketball and handball, it was designed to be inclusive, dynamic and exciting. Under Dabhade — now the Secretary of the International Roll Ball Federation (IRBF) — the game has spread across continents, attracting new nations and global attention.
Yet, at the highest level, India continues to set the pace. From a school in Pune to the world stage in Dubai, Roll Ball’s story is one of innovation, belief and sustained excellence — a sport India gave to the world, and still commands with authority.
