Cricket frenzy swept through Cuttack on Monday as thousands of passionate supporters poured into the Barabati Stadium to witness Team India’s marathon practice session ahead of the opening T20I against South Africa.
Despite being a non-match day, the roar inside the stadium matched match-day intensity, prompting the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) to open multiple gallery sections to control the swelling crowd.

The electrifying turnout underlined the region’s reputation as a cricket-crazy fortress, often marked by chaotic ticket sales and massive spectator enthusiasm whenever India plays in the city.
Intensity & Intent: India Go Hard in Final Prep
The two-hour session, led by Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, began with a short tactical address before the players split into focused groups for skill-specific drills, signalling India’s determination to start the series with authority.

The team’s approach suggested a clear roadmap toward the upcoming T20 World Cup, with emphasis on aggressive batting, power-hitting, and high-speed pace attacks.
Gill vs Bumrah Steals the Show
The standout moment of the session was the high-voltage face-off between opener Shubman Gill and speedster Jasprit Bumrah, drawing constant cheers from fans.

Gill’s fitness confirmed: Returning from a neck spasm, Gill batted fluently for an extended period, all but confirming his availability for the series opener.
Bumrah in top rhythm: The premier pacer bowled with fierce intent and at full pace, testing Gill with sharp lengths and variations.
Power Hitters Entertain the Crowd

Captain Suryakumar Yadav unleashed a string of stroke-filled shots against the spinners, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
Jitesh Sharma and Washington Sundar spent considerable time refining boundary-hitting, routinely sending balls into the stands.
Hardik Pandya, who trained individually on Sunday after returning from injury, joined the full squad drills and took part in high-intensity fitness and range-hitting work.
Fans Soak Up Every Moment

Many spectators arrived hours before the gates opened, waving flags, chanting player names, and recording videos on their phones.
Gill and Yadav stayed back for extra throwdowns, giving supporters a final treat before stumps, triggering chants of “India! India!” around the stadium.
Countdown to First Ball
With India signalling peak preparation mode and fan energy at an all-time high, the Barabati Stadium is set for a packed house and a fiery series opener on Tuesday night.
The message from the practice session was unmistakable: India is ready, focused, and hungry to begin their T20 World Cup journey with a statement win.
