Odia shuttler Tanvi Patri delivered an impressive performance on the third day of the 37th National Sub-Junior Badminton Championship, advancing to the quarterfinals in both the Girls Under-15 and Under-17 singles categories. The championship is currently underway at the Dalmia Bharat Gopichand Badminton High Performance Centre (Shuttle) located at the Kalinga Stadium complex in Bhubaneswar. A total of 112 matches were played on Wednesday.
In the Under-15 singles, Tanvi dominated her opponent Anvi Rathore of Rajasthan with a convincing 21-7, 21-8 straight-game victory. Meanwhile, top seed Saina Manimuthu suffered a shock exit after losing to Anushree G.S. of Tamil Nadu, exiting the title race.
Tanvi continued her winning momentum in the Under-17 category, defeating Hithashree L. of Karnataka 21-12, 21-14 to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
However, it was a disappointing day for another Odia player, Bapun Raut, who bowed out of the Under-17 boys singles after a hard-fought three-game match against Tanmanihal Uttam of Telangana, losing 16-21, 21-16, 12-21.
In the Under-15 girls doubles, the Odia pair Nimisha Ojha and Swati Nayak stormed into the quarterfinals with a solid performance, overcoming Alexia Elsa–Afreen Kwathun of Kerala 23-21, 21-8.
Assam’s Shantipriya Hazarika also made headlines by defeating top seed Sainath Mani Muthu in the Under-17 girls singles, securing a major upset of the tournament.
In the Under-15 boys singles, top seeds including Wazir Singh (Punjab), Pushkar Sai (Karnataka), Srichaitan Saurya (Telangana), Anshuman Chaudhury (Rajasthan), Jayvardhan Hooda (Haryana), and Harshit Khatri (Delhi) progressed to the quarterfinals.
