The 37th Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship kicked off Monday at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
The week-long tournament, organised jointly by the Badminton Association of India, Odisha State Badminton Association, and the Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha, will run from 1st to 6th December.
The opening ceremony was graced by Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Suraj said that hosting this prestigious national championship is a proud moment for Odisha. He welcomed participants from across States and Union Territories and expressed confidence that the young shuttlers would deliver outstanding performances.
Highlighting the significance of national-level tournaments for the State, the Minister noted that such events inspire budding badminton talents and contribute to nurturing a bright future for sports in Odisha.
The championship features competitions in the Under-15 and Under-17 categories, attracting top sub-junior shuttlers from across the country.
Also present at the inaugural event were Sachin Ramachandra Jadhav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Sports & Youth Services Department; Yeddula Vijay, Director, Sports & Youth Services Department; Dronacharya Awardee Coach Ganguly Prasad; Sanjeev Sachdeva, Selection Committee Member of the Indian Junior Badminton Team; V. Murali Krishna, Indian Para Badminton Coach; Shri Gobardhan Reddy, Indian Badminton Coach; and K.K. Sharma, Joint Secretary, Badminton Association of India.
The championship promises a week of high-octane badminton action, showcasing the next generation of India’s sporting talent.
