The South Africa cricket team inflicted a 2-0 whitewash upon India in the just concluded 2-match Test series. After plucking out a 30-run win in the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Indian cricket team suffered a mammoth 408-run defeat in the 2nd Test held at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. Chasing an improbable target of 549, India perished for 140 runs to suffer their biggest Test defeat (by runs).

Credit should go to ICC World Test Championship winners South Africa for being fierce under the leadership of Temba Bavuma. Their performances in Asia have been solid. They defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in the previous 2023-25 WTC cycle in 2024. And to start the 2025-27 cycle, the Proteas unit first drew the Test series against Pakistan 1-1 and then defeated India 2-0.

Here we present South Africa’s performance in their last three Test series in Asia.

Beat Bangladesh 2-0 in 2024

The 1st Test of South Africa’s 2024 Test tour of Bangladesh saw the hosts perish for 106 runs in the 1st innings. Wiaan Mulder and Kagiso Rabada shared six wickets between them. South Africa responded with a score of 308. Kyle Verreynne slammed a ton. The Bangladesh cricket team improved in the 3rd innings, but couldn’t get big runs, perishing for 307. Rabada claimed six wickets. In the 4th innings, South Africa got the job done with 7 wickets to spare.

The 2nd Test of the series saw the Proteas bat first and score 575/6d. Hundreds from Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs helped the visitors score big runs. Rabada’s fifer floored the hosts thereafter, who fell for 159. Following on, Bangladesh were shut down for 143 runs. Keshav Maharaj picked a fifer.

Drew 1-1 against Pakistan in 2025

The first Test of the 2025 Test series against Pakistan in October, saw the hosts win by 93 runs. The Pakistan cricket team scored 378 in the 1st innings with Salman Ali Agha and Imam-ul-Haq scoring 93 each. SA responded with 269. Tony de Zorzi hammered a ton. Noman Ali picked six wickets. Pakistan then managed 167 with Senuran Muthusamy taking a fifer. In response, the Proteas got 183 runs. Shaheen Afridi took a four-fer.

The 2nd Test saw South Africa offer a fightback. Pakistan got a decent score of 333 in the 1st innings. Maharaj picked 7 wickets for the visitors. The Proteas managed 404 and took a 71-run lead despite Asif Afridi’s six wickets. Pakistan were stunned thereafter. They perished for 138. Simon Harmer picked six scalps. South Africa then chased down a paltry target, scoring 73/2.

Beat India 2-0 in 2025

As mentioned, India were downed 2-0. The first Test was a low-scoring affair. The visitors managed 159 in the 1st innings with Jasprit Bumrah taking a fifer. India responded with 189 as they took a 30-run lead. The WTC champions then scored 153 next and set India a 124-run target. Harmer’s 2nd successive 4-fer meant India were bowled out for 93.

And in the 2nd Test, India allowed SA off the hook. Muthusamy’s century helped SA score 489. India were bamboozled as they collapsed to Marco Jansen’s fiery six-fer. SA managed 260/5d next and set India a 549-run target. India perished to Harmer’s brilliance and lost by 408 runs.
