Bhubaneswar:
Gill Expected To Arrive A Week Early
India’s star batter and T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill is likely to report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) nearly a week before the T20I series against South Africa begins. His early arrival is part of a monitored recovery programme following the neck injury he suffered during the first Test against South Africa.
Focus On Fitness And Rehabilitation
Gill has been under the supervision of the BCCI medical staff since the injury and will undergo a detailed assessment once he reaches the CoE. The trainers and physios are expected to put him through a phased rehabilitation schedule to evaluate whether he can return to full-intensity training in time for the T20Is.
Participation Still Not Confirmed
Despite being named vice-captain for the series, Gill’s participation remains uncertain. The selectors and team management have taken a cautious approach, prioritising his long-term fitness. A final call on his availability will depend on his progress during the week-long training and how well he responds to workload tests.
BCCI’s Careful Planning Ahead Of Busy Calendar
With several key international assignments lined up for India in the coming months, the BCCI is keen to avoid any risk of aggravating Gill’s injury. Monitoring him at the CoE allows the board to manage his workload closely and prepare him gradually for a potential return.
