The Netherlands clinched their spot at next year’s FIFA World Cup with a dominant 4–0 victory over Lithuania in their final Group G qualifier, showcasing clinical finishing and complete control in Amsterdam.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Tijjani Reijnders struck from close range, settling early nerves and putting the Dutch firmly on course.
The Oranje exploded in the second half, scoring three goals in just four minutes:
Cody Gakpo converted a penalty after a VAR-confirmed handball.
Xavi Simons unleashed a powerful solo effort seconds later.
Donyell Malen finished off a swift counter-attack to seal the rout.
With the win, the Netherlands finished top of Group G with 20 points, three ahead of Poland, ensuring direct qualification.
Midfield star Frenkie de Jong said the team’s focus now shifts to preparing for the World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico and the United States, noting that the “real work starts from here.”
Earlier in the qualifiers, Memphis Depay became the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer with his 52nd international goal during a 3–2 win over Lithuania, setting the tone for their strong campaign.
