India’s boxing team has delivered an impressive performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals, with multiple athletes securing spots in the semifinals, including Preeti Pawar, Minakshi Hooda, Narender Berwal, and Ankush Phangal.
Leading the charge was 22-year-old Preeti Pawar, who made a triumphant return to international competition after battling Hepatitis A. After a year-long hiatus, Pawar showcased her resilience and skill, defeating Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova in the women’s 54kg category by unanimous decision. Her high-intensity performance left Uktamova struggling to keep up, securing Pawar’s place in the semifinals.
Joining her in the semifinals are India’s other rising stars: Minakshi Hooda, the reigning women’s 48kg world champion; Narender Berwal in the +90kg category; and Ankush Phangal, who impressed in the 80kg division. Each of these athletes put on strong performances, ensuring India’s continued success at the prestigious tournament.
The victories signal a bright future for Indian boxing, especially with the Paris Olympics looming just months away. All four boxers are now one win away from securing a medal, adding to India’s growing medal hopes as the World Boxing Cup enters its final stages.
“We’ve been training hard for this, and it’s great to see the effort pay off,” said Pawar after her victory. “But we’re not stopping here. We’re all focused on the semifinals, and we’ll keep pushing for more.”
The Indian team’s success at this international event highlights their ongoing progress and growing reputation in world boxing. As the sport prepares for the upcoming Olympic Games, all eyes will be on these fighters to see how they fare in the final rounds.
