Samantha Ruth Prabhu, co-owner of the Chennai Super Champs, unveiled the franchise’s vibrant new jersey for World Pickleball League (WPBL) Season 2 during the inaugural Chennai Open held at Sathyabama University.
The Chennai Open, a flagship pickleball tournament organized by the Super Champs, is being hosted across six indoor courts on the university campus. The event has attracted over 500 registrations spanning 46 categories, and boasts India’s largest-ever pickleball prize pool of ₹25 lakh.
The new jersey is inspired by Chennai’s rich cultural identity and the symbolism of a fresh dawn. A gradient of orange to yellow evokes the sunrise over the Bay of Bengal, while subtle kolam-inspired micro-patterns pay homage to Tamil Nadu’s heritage. Bold red accents bring in a sense of fire, motion, and competitive energy — reflecting the team’s vision of inclusivity, youth empowerment, and boundless spirit.
Speaking at the event, Samantha said that her partnership with Sathyabama University excites her deeply: she sees the city’s energy, pride, and sporting passion carried forward through this initiative. She called the Chennai Open “where the future of pickleball begins,” and expressed her hope that every young person in Chennai knows this sport belongs to them.
Also present, Sathyabama University Chancellor Dr. Mariazeena Johnson praised the growing role of the campus as a sporting hub, while Chennai Super Champs co-owner Himank Duvvuru emphasised how Season 2 marks a bold step forward in their mission.
The team plans to debut the new jersey officially in WPBL Season 2, which is scheduled to begin in January 2026 at Jio World Garden, Mumbai.
