Most runs and wickets for India in a Women’s World Cup edition

The Indian women’s cricket team emerged champions of the ICC ODI World Cup 2025. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side defeated South Africa Women by 52 runs in the final held at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. India, playing their 3rd Women’s World Cup final, won the tournament for the 1st time. They fell short in 2005 and 2017. However, this time they delivered in front of a packed stadium.

India scored 298/7 in the final. Shafali Verma hit 87 runs with Smriti Mandhana (45) and Deepti Sharma (58) also producing substantial performances. South Africa managed 246 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in the chase. Laura Wolvaardt hit 101 runs which wasn’t enough. Deepti delivered the goods with a crunch fifer. She clocked 5/39 from 9.3 overs.

Smriti Mandhana becomes India’s highest scorer in a World Cup edition

Mandhana scored 45 runs in the final, facing 58 balls and hitting 8 fours. She added 104 runs for the 1st wicket alongside Shafali. As per ESPNcricinfo, Mandhana made a record of amassing the most runs for India in a Women’s World Cup edition. She also became the 9th-highest scorer overall in a World Cup edition. She finished as the 2nd-highest scorer in the 2025 Women’s World Cup.

The southpaw managed 434 runs in the 2025 Women’s World Cup from 9 matches at 54.25 with one ton and 2 fifties under her kitty. She surpassed the tally of former India skipper Mithali Raj, who hit 409 runs in the 2017 edition from 9 matches. The 3rd spot among Indians belongs to Punam Raut, who scored 381 runs in the 2017 edition.

Deepti Sharma becomes India’s highest wicket-taker in a World Cup edition

Deepti’s fifer in the final meant she finished as the highest wicket-taker in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. She finished with 22 wickets at 20.40. She picked one fifer and a four-fer.

Deepti is now India’s highest wicket-taker in an edition of the World Cup. The experienced campaigner broke Neetu David and Shubhangi Kulkarni’s record. Neetu took 20 wickets from 8 matches in the 2005 edition whereas Kulkarni also managed 20 wickets in the 1982 edition from 12 matches at 11.70.

  • Neetu David – 20 wickets in 2005 World Cup
  • Shubhangi Kulkarni – 20 wickets in 1982 World Cup
