India produced its best-ever performance at the 2025 Asian Youth Games held in Manama, Bahrain, leaving a strong mark on the continental stage. The young athletes returned home with a historic medal tally of 48 medals — 13 gold, 18 silver, and 17 bronze — securing the nation a proud sixth-place finish overall.

The Indian contingent’s success was spread across multiple disciplines, showcasing the depth of talent among the country’s youth. Boxers led the charge, winning seven medals, including several golds, reflecting the continued dominance of India in the ring. Wrestlers also impressed under the guidance of Padma Shri Yogeshwar Dutt, clinching seven medals and reaffirming the nation’s wrestling pedigree.
In weightlifting, rising star Priteesmita Bhoi made headlines by setting a world youth record in the 44 kg category, lifting a total of 203 kg to secure gold. Meanwhile, the girls’ kabaddi team emerged as champions, claiming India’s first-ever kabaddi gold at the Games and highlighting the sport’s growing popularity among young athletes. In Muay Thai, Alphonsa Zinia from Meghalaya won bronze, while team members Mudit Gupta and Yuvraj Singh delivered commendable performances, signaling India’s increasing competitiveness in combat sports.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the young athletes for their outstanding achievements. Sharing his message on social media, he said:
“Our young athletes have scripted history at the Asian Youth Games 2025 with their best-ever performance, winning an impressive 48 medals. Congrats to the contingent. Their passion, determination, and hard work are clearly visible. My best wishes for their future endeavours.”
