Hobart: India bounced back in style to level the T20I series against Australia, registering a convincing win in the third match at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. After losing the opener at the MCG, the Men in Blue produced a clinical all-round performance to outplay the hosts, marking Australia’s first-ever T20I defeat at Hobart.
Electing to bowl first, India’s bowlers struck crucial blows at regular intervals. Arshdeep Singh starred with a brilliant three-wicket haul, earning the Player of the Match award. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep formed a lethal opening duo, keeping the Australian scoring in check. Varun Chakaravarthy and Shivam Dube supported effectively, while Nathan Ellis was the lone Australian bowler who shone, claiming three wickets. Despite a valiant effort from Tim David, who smashed a rapid 74 off 38 balls, and Marcus Stoinis with a fiery half-century, Australia fell 15–20 runs short of a challenging total.
Chasing 188, India got off to a steady start with Abhishek Sharma providing the initial momentum before falling to a sharp delivery from Ellis. Suryakumar Yadav’s quickfire 24 off 11 balls added impetus, while Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 49 off 23 balls anchored the chase alongside Jitesh Sharma, steering India home with nine balls to spare. Suryakumar Yadav praised the team’s effort post-match, highlighting the importance of the toss, key partnerships, and Washington Sundar’s versatile performance.
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh acknowledged India’s superiority, noting his side fell short by 20 runs and hoped for Glenn Maxwell’s fitness in the upcoming game. The fourth T20I now shifts to the Heritage Bank Stadium in Queensland on 6th November, with both teams eager to take the series lead.
India’s triumph in Hobart not only showcased their depth and resilience but also set the stage for a thrilling series decider in Queensland
