Kanpur, October 27: Uttar Pradesh continued their dominance over Odisha on the third day of their Ranji Trophy encounter at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, ending the day at 280 for 6 in their second innings and extending their overall lead to 137 runs.
The day belonged entirely to Uttar Pradesh’s batting pair of Karan Sharma and Aaradhya Yadav, who showcased remarkable composure and class under pressure. Skipper Sharma led from the front with a fluent 121, while Yadav complemented him perfectly with a well-crafted 101, as the duo stitched together a vital partnership that left the Odisha bowlers searching for breakthroughs.
Resuming the day with a slender advantage, Uttar Pradesh built on their momentum through disciplined batting and smart shot selection. Karan Sharma’s innings was a captain’s knock, marked by elegant drives and solid defense, while Yadav’s knock added stability and confidence to the middle order. Their partnership not only lifted Uttar Pradesh out of early jitters but also pushed the game decisively in their favour.
For Odisha, the bowlers toiled hard throughout the day but struggled to make meaningful inroads. Occasional bursts of swing and spin from Odisha bowlers kept the batters on their toes, but the lack of consistent pressure allowed the Uttar Pradesh batters to dominate for long spells.
By the end of the day’s play, with six wickets down and a lead crossing the 130-run mark, Uttar Pradesh had clearly taken the upper hand. The hosts will aim to stretch their lead further on the fourth morning to put the match beyond Odisha’s reach, while the visitors will look to strike early and keep their hopes alive for a draw or an outside chance of a turnaround.
The fourth day’s play promises to be crucial in deciding the course of this first-class contest, as Uttar Pradesh look to press home their advantage and Odisha fight to stay afloat.
