Bhubaneswar: Odisha celebrated a moment of immense pride as its young weightlifting sensation Preetismita Bhoi clinched the Gold Medal in the 44 kg category at the 3rd Youth Asian Games 2025 in Bahrain, setting both a New Asian Record and a World Record in the Clean & Jerk event.
The 17-year-old lifter, who trains at the Weightlifting High Performance Centre at Kalinga Stadium, produced a stellar performance with lifts of 66 kg in Snatch and 92 kg in Clean & Jerk, taking her total to an impressive 158 kg. Her record-breaking effort reaffirmed Odisha’s growing dominance in India’s sporting landscape.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his heartfelt congratulations to the young champion, saying, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Odia sportsperson Preetismita Bhoi, who won the gold medal in the 44 kg category at the Third Youth Asian Games in Bahrain while also setting a new world record in Clean & Jerk. Her remarkable performance is a matter of pride and honour for both the state and the nation. Wishing her a bright future and continued success.”
Meanwhile, Odisha’s athletic talent continued to make waves on the international stage. Sarun Payasingh won the Bronze Medal 🥉 in the Men’s Long Jump with a leap of 7.52 metres at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships 2025.
Adding to the glory, the Indian Men’s 4x100m Relay Team bagged Silver 🥈 at the same event, with Odisha’s Pratik Maharana teaming up with Harsh Raut, Jasjit Singh Dhillon, and Pranav Gurav to secure the podium finish.
With these outstanding performances, Odisha’s athletes continue to elevate India’s reputation in global sporting arenas — proving that the state’s investment in sports infrastructure and athlete development is yielding golden results.
