Kanpur, October 26: Uttar Pradesh took control on Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy 2025–26 clash against Odisha, reaching 262 for 3 at stumps to gain a 19-run first-innings lead at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur.
Resuming their innings with discipline and patience, UP’s middle-order pair Karan Sharma (83)* and Aaradhya Yadav (80)* forged an unbeaten partnership that steadied the innings after early setbacks. The duo combined composure with calculated aggression, frustrating Odisha’s attack and ensuring the hosts ended the day in a commanding position.
Earlier, debutant Sambit S. Baral enjoyed a memorable day for Odisha. After impressing with a composed 59 in the first innings, the youngster shone with the ball as well, picking up three wickets to provide crucial breakthroughs and briefly check UP’s progress.
Odisha had earlier posted 243 in their first innings, built around solid contributions from Govind Poddar (64) and Baral (59). For Uttar Pradesh, Shivam Sharma led the bowling effort with 3 for 65.
With Karan and Aaradhya looking well set, Uttar Pradesh will aim to stretch their lead further on Day 3. Odisha, on the other hand, will be hoping for early wickets to bring themselves back into the contest.
