On the eve of their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 opener against Sri Lanka, India could be forced to rethink their spin-heavy bowling approach. The pitch at the ACA Barsapara Stadium is expected to offer little assistance to spinners, raising the possibility of a pace-dominated lineup.
Pitch Likely to Favour Batters
The Barsapara wicket has historically been batting-friendly, with high-scoring encounters in the IPL earlier this year. Rajasthan Royals registered totals of 151/9 and 182/9 in March, underlining the surface’s limited help for spin.
“Barsapara wicket never assisted spin. It has always been a good sporting wicket and there should be no difference this time,” one of the curators said, suggesting that batters could dominate if they apply themselves.
Possible Bowling Combination Shift
India’s reliance on spin has been central to their recent campaigns, but the conditions in Guwahati may see more seamers in action. With Renuka Singh returning to the squad, the team management could opt for a seamer-heavy attack while weighing whether both Radha Yadav and Sneh Rana should feature.
Balancing Spin and Seam
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur faces the task of finding the right balance, ensuring India retains its spin strength while also adapting to conditions. The decision could be crucial as India look to begin their World Cup journey with a win in front of home supporters.
