Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Keonjhar is set for a major upgrade in sports infrastructure. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed plans on Friday for six landmark projects aimed at nurturing talent and promoting athletic excellence across the region.
Six Projects, One Goal: Grassroots to Global
The ambitious plan includes:
- Modern sports complexes in Ranki and Raikala
- A football stadium with indoor and outdoor game facilities in Kali Padia
- A state-of-the-art swimming pool at DN High School
- An archery academy in Naranpur
- A 100-bed specialized handball hostel in Kendujhar
These projects are designed to not only host local and state-level competitions but also groom athletes for national and international arenas.

Focus on Timely Execution and Quality Facilities
During the review, CM Majhi emphasized strict adherence to timelines, high-quality amenities, and the creation of infrastructure that can inspire the next generation of sports talent in Odisha.
Building Odisha’s Sporting Legacy
Officials from the Sports, Culture, and Finance Departments attended the meeting alongside Minister for Sports Suryavanshi Suraj, Commissioner & Secretary Sachin Ramchandra Yadav, and Sports Director Dr. Edula Vijay. The CM’s vision aligns with Odisha’s larger aim of fostering sports alongside cultural development, positioning districts like Keonjhar as emerging athletic powerhouses.
Transforming Keonjhar’s Sports Landscape
The projects are expected to position Keonjhar, a mineral-rich district, as Odisha’s next big sports hub, blending it’s cultural richness with modern athletic facilities. Local youth now have a clear pathway to national and global sporting platforms, strengthening Odisha’s reputation in India’s sporting map.
