Great Britain’s women’s team pursuit squad is setting sights on an unprecedented third consecutive world title at the 2025 Track Cycling World Championships in Santiago, Chile (Oct 22–26).
The golden lineup — Josie Knight, Katie Archibald, Anna Morris, Megan Barker, and Jessica Roberts — returns to defend their dominance after triumphs in Glasgow (2023) and Denmark (2024). Rising star Maddie Leech joins the mix, making her World Championship debut after a near miss at the European Omnium earlier this year.
A Legacy of Excellence
Since the event’s inception in 2008, Great Britain has been the undisputed powerhouse of women’s team pursuit — capturing eight golds, six silvers, and two bronzes, and missing the podium only once.
Josie Knight acknowledges the expectations that come with such legacy:
“The riders before us — Laura Kenny, Elinor Barker, Joanna Rowsell — set such a high standard. People look at us as the best, and we want to live up to that.”
Rising Competition, Renewed Focus
Teammate Jessica Roberts, one of three Welsh riders alongside Morris and Barker, says the squad is ready for the challenge:
“Everyone is strong now; women’s cycling has never been this competitive. You’ve got to bring your A-game.”
The addition of Leech brings new dynamics to the lineup, but Knight says British Cycling’s robust program ensures seamless transitions:
“You instantly trust any younger rider coming through — they’re prepared and know what it takes.”
Chasing the Rainbow Once More
The team will again aim for the coveted rainbow jerseys awarded to world champions — a tradition in cycling since 1927. Both Knight and Roberts, who took breaks post-Paris 2024 Olympics, are eager to earn the stripes again.
“It’s such a special feeling to wear that jersey,” said Knight. “We’ve been training in them — now we want to race in them again.”
Eyes on the Triple Crown
As they prepare to storm the Velódromo Peñalolén, the mission remains simple yet ambitious — perfection over three flawless rides and a shot at history.
“We’re going there to win,” said Roberts. “Three in a row — that would be something truly special.”
