Bhubaneswar: India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is finally edging closer to a return after a challenging injury layoff. Pant fractured his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester in July 2025, forcing him out of the remainder of the series and India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Australia.
Initially expected to be sidelined for six weeks, Pant’s recovery extended over two and a half months due to the severity of the injury. Under the careful supervision of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, he has been undergoing rigorous physiotherapy and fitness training, showing steady progress week by week. Sources reveal Pant has even begun light net sessions, hinting at his readiness to face competitive cricket again.
The 26-year-old is now targeting a comeback in the Ranji Trophy for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh, starting October 25, 2025. If cleared medically, this match will mark a crucial step in Pant’s journey back to international cricket, potentially setting him up for India’s home Test series against South Africa.
While Pant recovers, emerging talent Dhruv Jurel has impressed in his absence, sparking conversations about India’s wicketkeeping future. Yet, Pant’s dynamic batting style and experience make him an irreplaceable asset once fully fit. Fans and teammates alike are eagerly awaiting his return, which promises to inject energy into the Indian lineup.
