The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lodged a strong protest at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting after India’s Asia Cup-winning team was denied the trophy in Dubai.
The controversy erupted on Sunday when the Indian players refused to accept the silverware from ACC chairman and Pakistan minister Mohsin Naqvi in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The trophy has since remained in the ACC office, sparking outrage in Indian cricket circles.
Shukla demands handover
Representing India at the AGM, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla insisted that the Asia Cup title belonged to the team and not to an individual office bearer. “The trophy should be handed over to the winning side. It is an ACC property,” Shukla was quoted as saying in the meeting.
Former BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, also present at the meeting, reportedly walked out midway in protest.
ICC involvement likely
Despite India’s objections, Naqvi is yet to agree to release the trophy. With the standoff continuing, BCCI officials are understood to be considering approaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) for intervention if the issue is not resolved promptly.
India had beaten Pakistan in the final to win the 2025 Asia Cup, but the post-match ceremony ended in an unprecedented deadlock, leaving the champions without their prize.
