Bhubaneswar, India – India has been confirmed as the host nation for the 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Teams Championships. The top-tier continental event will take place at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, running from October 11 to 15.
The announcement, made by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) on Saturday, ensures that the Odisha capital will be the centre of Asian table tennis action for five days.
Key Details and Global Stakes
The tournament will feature paddlers from 22 nations, bringing Asia’s best talent to India. Participating countries include table tennis powerhouses like China, Japan, North and South Korea, as well as Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
- World Championship Qualification: The stakes are high as top finishers from this event will secure berths for the 2026 World Championships, which is scheduled to be held in London.
- India’s Past Success: At the last Asian Championships, held in Kazakhstan, the Indian men’s and women’s teams both clinched bronze medals. Furthermore, the women’s doubles pair of Ayhika and Sutirtha Mukherjee won a historic bronze medal.
- Odisha’s Sporting Legacy: While Odisha previously hosted the 2019 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in Cuttack, this marks the state’s maiden Asian-level TT event.
Coinciding with the championships, the Kalinga Stadium will be a hub of diverse sports action, hosting the National junior athletics championships (October 10 to 14) and the ITF Masters 100 tennis tournament (October 11 to 15) simultaneously.
