New Role Ahead of Season 4
Indian cricketing star KL Rahul has officially acquired a 10% stake in the Goa Guardians franchise, joining the ownership group ahead of the fourth season of the Prime Volleyball League (PVL). The team is owned by Raju Chekuri, founder of NetEnrich, who already led the bid to add Goa as the league’s tenth city-franchise.
Financials & Valuation Insights
The valuation of the Goa Guardians is estimated to be between ₹50-70 crore.
The broader Prime Volleyball League itself is reportedly valued at around ₹500 crore, following this expansion.
Why Rahul Made the Move
KL Rahul describes this as a “full circle moment”. He has stated that his intention is to bring more recognition and visibility to volleyball in India. “The bigger picture is to give volleyball the spotlight and screen time so that more people can watch it and love this sport,” he said.
What Goa Guardians and PVL Say
Raju Chekuri, principal owner of the Goa Guardians, expressed delight at Rahul joining: he believes that Rahul’s passion and vision can help build a franchise that “inspires fans and empowers athletes.”
Joy Bhattacharjya, CEO of PVL, said the move adds “immense value” to the league’s ambition, especially their goal of helping India compete strongly in volleyball at the Olympic level.
Looking Ahead: Season 4 Details & Broadcasting
The fourth season of PVL is scheduled from October 2 to 26, 2025, in Hyderabad.
All matches will be broadcast on Sony Sports Network, and streamed live via PVL’s YouTube channel.
Goa Guardians will make their debut this season as the new 10th franchise, joining the existing teams for a high-energy format designed for both television and digital audiences.
Significance & Broader Impact
KL Rahul’s entry into volleyball ownership signals a growing trend of top athletes and celebrities investing in emerging sports in India. It reflects increasing recognition of the potential in sports beyond cricket, especially through franchise models that offer visibility, infrastructure, and fan engagement opportunities.
