Defending champion Neeraj Chopra secured his place in the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships with a single effort, producing a mark of 84.85m in his very first attempt during the qualification round on Wednesday.
Automatic qualification sealed
The 27-year-old Olympic gold medallist needed 84.50m to guarantee automatic qualification, and he surpassed the mark with ease. Competing in Group A, Chopra was also the very first athlete to step up, instantly confirming his place in the final before deciding not to take his remaining throws.
Eyes on another medal
With his effortless progression, Chopra has once again underlined his status as a big-stage performer. The men’s javelin final is scheduled for Thursday, September 18, at 3:53 pm IST, where he will look to defend his crown and add another medal to his glittering career.
