Tokyo : Cordell Tinch of the United States clinched the gold medal in the men’s 110m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships held at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo on Tuesday, September 16. The 25-year-old hurdler completed the final in an impressive 12.99 seconds, marking his first international championship title in his second professional season.
Tinch’s victory ended the six-year dominance of Olympic gold medalist Grant Holloway, who failed to qualify for the final after finishing sixth in his semi-final heat. The American hurdler showcased remarkable speed and agility, navigating ten hurdles with precision to hold off fierce competition. Jamaica’s Orlando Bennett secured the silver medal with a personal best of 13.08 seconds, while Tyler Mason earned bronze with a time of 13.12 seconds, equaling his own personal best.
Tinch’s journey to the top has been unconventional. After a three-year hiatus from track and field during which he worked various non-sport jobs, he returned in 2023 and rapidly rose through the ranks. Earlier this season, he clocked a personal best of 12.87 seconds, one of the fastest times ever recorded in the event. His gold medal in Tokyo is the culmination of a season that established him as the world’s leading hurdler.
The Tokyo win not only crowns Tinch as world champion but also highlights his remarkable comeback and rapid ascent in the sport. This milestone achievement lays a strong foundation for what promises to be a spectacular career ahead in the global athletics arena.
This triumph adds a new chapter to the men’s 110m hurdles history, with Tinch now firmly established among the sport’s elite .
