DUBAI, UAE — The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a historic milestone for the sport, appointing an all-female panel of match officials to oversee the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. This marks the first time in the tournament’s history that every match will be officiated entirely by women.

The decision is a significant step in the ICC’s strategic vision to promote gender equity and accelerate the growth of women’s cricket. The upcoming 13th edition of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, hosted by India, will feature 31 matches over 33 days, with eight teams competing for the title.

A Milestone for Gender Equity

In a media release, the ICC hailed the announcement as a “defining moment” for the game. The organization stated that the move goes beyond symbolic value, focusing on providing “visibility, opportunity, and the creation of meaningful role models” to inspire future generations. The inclusion of an all-women panel of match officials is, according to ICC’s official statement, a “powerful reflection of the ICC’s unwavering commitment to advancing gender equity across cricket.”

Experienced Officials Named to Panel

The officiating team is comprised of 14 umpires and four match referees, all of whom bring extensive international experience. The list includes highly respected figures such as umpires Claire Polosak, Jacqueline Williams, and Sue Redfern, who are each set to officiate in their third Women’s Cricket World Cup. Lauren Agenbag and Kim Cotton, who stood as on-field umpires in the 2022 final, are also part of the panel.

The four match referees appointed are Trudy Anderson, Shandré Fritz, GS Lakshmi, and Michelle Pereira. The ICC noted that the appointment of this panel is a testament to its long-term investment and support for the development of international match officials through its High Performance Officiating Programme. As the world turns its eyes to India for the tournament, this historic moment is expected to inspire a new generation of cricket officials and champions alike.
