Indian captain loses ground in latest ICC Test rankings

India captain Shubman Gill slipped two places among batters while Jasprit Bumrah dropped one spot among bowlers in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday, with Devdutt Padikkal making significant gains.

Gill, who managed just one half-century across three innings during India’s recent tour of Sri Lanka, fell two places to ninth in the batting rankings.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant remains India’s highest-ranked batter at seventh, while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal retained his 11th position.

Padikkal Makes Big Ranking Gains

Padikkal was India’s standout batter during the Sri Lanka tour, scoring 328 runs across two Tests, including two centuries.

His impressive performances helped him climb five places to 54th in the latest rankings.

The left-handed batter’s rise comes after a highly productive series in which he emerged as India’s most consistent run-scorer.

Bumrah Drops To Third

Bumrah, meanwhile, slipped from second to third in the Test bowling rankings.

The India pace spearhead is now behind Australia’s Mitchell Starc and New Zealand’s Matt Henry.

Bumrah missed India’s Sri Lanka tour after suffering an impact injury to his knee that has kept him out of action since mid-July.

The 32-year-old has been included in India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in September, although his participation remains subject to fitness clearance.

Dinusha Makes Huge Leap

Sri Lanka’s Sonal Dinusha was another major mover in the latest rankings.

The all-rounder climbed 29 places to 25th among Test batters after producing a pair of resilient centuries during the second Test against India in Colombo.

His performances provided Sri Lanka with a major boost and helped him make one of the biggest jumps in the latest rankings update.
