Singapore : At the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, Canadian sensation Summer McIntosh continued her remarkable performance by winning her third gold medal, capturing the women’s 200m butterfly in a championship record time of 2:01.99. Despite narrowly missing the world record by 0.18 seconds, McIntosh’s time stands as the second-fastest ever in this event. This victory follows her earlier golds in the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley, putting her on track to tie Michael Phelps’ record of five individual gold medals at a single World Championships. McIntosh dominated the race by nearly three seconds ahead of American Regan Smith, who took silver.
On the men’s front, French swimmer Léon Marchand secured gold in the 200m individual medley with a time of 1:53.68. Though he fell short of his world record set the previous night in the semifinals (1:52.69), Marchand’s performance reinforced his status as a top contender in international swimming.
These stellar performances are among the highlights of the 22nd World Aquatics Championships, which have brought together top swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming talents from 203 countries plus special teams. China leads the medal table overall, especially dominating diving and artistic swimming, while nations like Australia, Germany, the United States, and Canada have also made significant impacts.
McIntosh’s and Marchand’s achievements demonstrate the growing global competition and remarkable talent present in this edition of the championships, continuing to build excitement ahead of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
