London : England have been docked 2 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points and fined 10% of their match fee for a slow over-rate in their dramatic third Test win against India at Lord’s. Captain Ben Stokes pleaded guilty and accepted the sanction, which means there was no formal hearing.
The ICC found England two overs short after time allowances were considered, triggering penalties under WTC and ICC Code of Conduct rules. England’s points tally drops from 24 to 22, knocking them from second to third in the WTC standings, with Sri Lanka moving up. India received no penalty, as they were not short after allowances.
Despite the thrilling 22-run win, this setback adds to England’s previous record of over-rate penalties in recent WTC cycles. The fines and point deduction are automatic for each over missed: 5% of match fees and 1 WTC point perover.
