Fresh off his Diamond League win in Paris, reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra is set to compete at the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike on Tuesday.1 This will be his fifth competition this season.
Neeraj Chopra’s Season So Far
Chopra began his year at an invitational meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, where he secured a victory with a throw of 84.52m.2 In his Diamond League debut in Doha, he achieved a significant milestone, breaking the 90m barrier for the first time with a throw of 90.23m, surpassing his previous best of 89.94m. Despite this, he placed second to Germany’s Julian Weber, who also hit a personal best and world-leading throw of 91.06m.3
Following Doha, Chopra competed at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Chorzow, Poland, where he again finished second to Weber with a throw of 84.14m.4 However, Chopra bested Weber at the Paris Diamond League on Friday, claiming first place with his opening throw of 88.16m.5
Ostrava Golden Spike Details
Neeraj Chopra’s men’s javelin throw event at the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike is scheduled to start at 10:30 PM IST on June 24 (7:00 PM local time). In India, the event will be streamed live on the World Athletics’ Inside Track.6
Chopra last competed in Ostrava in 2018 at the IAAF Continental Cup, where he finished sixth with a throw of 80.24m.7 This will be his first appearance at the Ostrava Golden Spike.
