Defying Limits: Pranati Nayak’s Inspiring Journey Through Injury to Gymnastics Glory

Bhubaneswar : Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak has demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination throughout her career, overcoming multiple injuries to achieve significant success on the international stage. She began gymnastics at the age of six, inspired partly by her interest in yoga, and trains under the guidance of coach Ashok Kumar Mishra. Despite battling chronic injuries like tennis elbow and persistent ankle problems, she has managed her training and recovery meticulously to maintain top performance. Pranati has earned several medals, including multiple bronze medals on the vault at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships (2019, 2022, and 2025) and at FIG World Cup events. Her dedication saw her represent India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she competed admirably despite limited training time due to the COVID-19 disruptions. She remains among the rare Indian gymnasts to succeed at this level, following pioneers like Dipa Karmakar and Aruna Reddy.

Pranati’s career highlights include becoming the first Indian gymnast to win two medals at the Asian Championships vault event and earning a continental quota spot for the 2020 Olympics. In 2025, she added a third bronze medal in the vault event at the Asian Championships in South Korea, alongside a gold in the All-Around final at the National Games, demonstrating her all-around capabilities. Her approach to injury management involves strict rest, rehabilitation, and controlled training to sustain her career beyond the typical retirement age for gymnasts. Supported steadfastly by her coach, Pranati aims to continue competing internationally, targeting future Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and potentially the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Her story is one of resilience, strategic discipline, and an enduring passion for gymnastics that inspires emerging athletes from India.
