China Win Women’s Team Gold at Gymnastics World Championships 2026
China ended the United States’ dominance in women’s team gymnastics by winning gold at the 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on October 21. China scored 165.764 points, narrowly beating the USA’s 165.531, while Japan finished third with 164.063 points. The victory marked China’s first women’s team world title since 2006.
The result also ended the American team’s run of seven consecutive world titles since 2011. China’s strong performance on the balance beam proved decisive in one of the closest team finals of recent years.
China Edge USA in Dramatic Women’s Team Final
China built its winning total through consistent routines across the four apparatuses: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. The team scored 43.366 on balance beam, the highest apparatus total of the final, creating the advantage that ultimately separated the gold medallists from the United States.
The American team excelled on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise but lost ground on the balance beam. Its final total of 165.531 left it just 0.233 points short of gold, ending its impressive run of consecutive world team championships.

Japan finished third with 164.063 points, earning its first women’s team medal at the World Championships in 60 years. The Japanese team’s performance marked a major breakthrough after finishing fifth in qualifying.
