Pranav Venkatesh secured the Open title at the FIDE World Junior Blitz Championship 2026, held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, on November 6. The 20-year-old Indian Grandmaster scored an impressive 10.5 points from 13 rounds to finish at the top of the standings.

He finished a full point ahead of his closest competitors. Kyrgyzstan鈥檚 International Master Eldiyar Orozbaev took second place with 9.5 points, while Armenia鈥檚 IM Robert Piliposyan finished third with the same score. Syria鈥檚 FIDE Master Mazen Fandi also scored 9.5 points to secure fourth place.

Pranav Venkatesh Maintains Strong Form to Claim Gold

Pranav made a strong start to the championship, finishing the opening day with six points and sharing the lead in the Open category. He carried that momentum into the remaining rounds and eventually emerged as the outright champion.

The blitz competition followed a 13-round Swiss-system format, with a time control of three minutes per player and a two-second increment for every move. Pranav’s final score of 10.5 points placed him comfortably ahead of the field.

The victory adds another significant achievement to the Indian Grandmaster’s career. Pranav had previously won the FIDE World Junior Championship in the classical format in 2025, establishing himself among India’s leading young chess talents.

India Also Impresses in the Girls Section

India also recorded encouraging performances in the Girls section of the World Junior Blitz Championship.

Woman International Master Aamuktha Guntaka finished fifth with nine points from 13 rounds, while International Master Savitha Shri B secured seventh place with 8.5 points.

The Girls title went to Woman Grandmaster Valeria Kleymenova, who collected 10 points. Uzbekistan’s WGM Afruza Khamdamova and Russia’s WFM Veronika Iudina finished second and third respectively, both scoring 9.5 points.

Rapid Silver Completes Pranav’s Impressive Campaign

Pranav’s blitz gold capped an impressive overall campaign at the FIDE World Junior Rapid and Blitz Championships in Al Ain. Before winning the blitz title, he had also secured silver in the Open section of the World Junior Rapid Championship.

He scored seven points from nine rounds in the Rapid competition, finishing just half a point behind Uzbekistan’s Grandmaster Khumoyun Begmuratov, who claimed gold with 7.5 points.

With a rapid silver and blitz gold, Pranav Venkatesh delivered one of India’s standout performances at the championships, adding another international title to his growing list of achievements.
