Rishabh Pant Forced To Retire Hurt After Painful Foot Blow In 4th Test Against England

Manchester:
India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was forced to retire hurt after suffering a painful blow to his right foot during Day 1 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. The incident occurred while Pant was attempting an aggressive reverse sweep off England all-rounder Chris Woakes. The ball struck him flush on the foot, causing visible swelling and bleeding, and he was immediately taken off the field on a medical cart.

Reverse Sweep Gone Wrong Leaves Pant in Agony
Pant, who was batting fluently at 37 off 48 deliveries, misjudged a reverse sweep which ricocheted off his bat and hit his foot. He was seen writhing in pain and could not continue. The injury stunned both teams and the crowd, halting India’s growing momentum at a critical phase of their innings.

BCCI Issues Statement, Medical Team Assesses Injury
Shortly after the incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Pant had been taken for scans. Medical sources within the team suggested the possibility of a hairline fracture or significant soft tissue damage. A final diagnosis is expected following detailed medical imaging.

As per reports, the injury may sideline Pant for the remainder of the match and potentially the series, depending on the severity of the damage.

India’s Innings Disrupted by Unexpected Blow
At the time of Pant’s injury, India were comfortably placed at 212/3 with a promising partnership between Pant and debutant Sai Sudharsan. Following the setback, India added 52 runs before stumps, ending the day at 264/4. Sudharsan’s composed half-century offered some stability, but Pant’s absence was clearly felt in the lower middle order.

Liam Dawson Voices Concern From England Camp
In a mark of sportsmanship, England all-rounder Liam Dawson expressed his concern over the injury. “It looked very painful, and nobody wants to see a top player leave the field like that,” he said during the post-day briefing. “Hopefully it’s not serious, and he can return.”

What Lies Ahead for Pant and Team India

Area Status

Injury Type Suspected fracture or deep tissue injury
Scans & Tests Underway at Manchester medical facility
Playing Status Unlikely to bat again unless medically cleared
Team Adjustments India may need a substitute keeper and revised batting order
Series Impact Pant’s absence could shift momentum in England’s favor

England Regain Footing As India Face Uncertainty
Pant’s injury handed England a lifeline in what had been India’s dominant day until that point. With momentum now slightly shifting, the English side will look to exploit India’s altered batting lineup as the match progresses.

Awaiting Scan Results
The Indian team management is expected to provide an official update on Pant’s condition before the start of Day 2. Fans and cricketing experts alike are holding their breath, hoping the injury isn’t serious enough to end Pant’s participation in what has been a closely contested series.
