Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has not applied for the vacant West Zone position on the BCCI senior men’s selection committee, clearing the way for Pragyan Ojha to continue as chairman for the remainder of his tenure.

The application deadline ended on Wednesday, with Patel choosing to stay away from the process. Ojha, the South Zone representative, is now set to retain the chairmanship, with his greater number of Test appearances among the existing selectors strengthening his position.

Parthiv Patel Stays Away From Selection Race

Patel had been widely tipped to replace Ajit Agarkar as the West Zone representative. However, a BCCI source told PTI that he had not submitted an application by 5 pm on Wednesday.

The source added that the situation could change if the board extends the deadline or Patel reconsiders his decision.

For now, Patel appears set to continue with his coaching role at Gujarat Titans and his broadcasting commitments rather than join the senior selection committee.

Ramesh Powar, Sameer Dighe Among Potential Candidates

Former India spinner Ramesh Powar, who was expected to become chairman of the junior men’s selection committee, could now emerge as a contender for the senior selector’s post from the West Zone.

Former India wicketkeeper Sameer Dighe is another possible candidate. Both Powar and Dighe had applied when the selectors’ positions were last advertised.

However, the pool of prominent eligible candidates from the West Zone appears limited unless the BCCI extends the deadline and gives Patel another opportunity to apply.
