India’s Rising Stars: Meet the Nation’s New Olympic Hopefuls

As the world counts down to the 2024 Paris Olympics, a fresh wave of Indian athletes is quietly building momentum, preparing to make their presence felt on sport’s biggest stage. With seasoned performers and exciting newcomers alike, India’s Olympic dreams are no longer confined to a handful of disciplines. A mix of talent, resilience, and structured support has produced a promising crop of athletes ready to challenge the world.

Raiza Dhillon – Sharpshooter With Ice in Her Veins

Hailing from Punjab, 20-year-old Raiza Dhillon has emerged as a surprise medal contender in skeet shooting. Her calm temperament under pressure and recent performances on the international stage have caught the attention of experts. With a remarkable score of 124 out of 125 at a national selection trial and a podium finish at the Junior World Cup, Raiza has firmly earned her spot among the Olympic elite.

Tilottama Sen – Rifle Prodigy with a Steady Aim

At just 16, Bengaluru’s Tilottama Sen has proven she belongs in the company of seasoned champions. Her breakout silver medal performance at the 2023 Asian Championships turned heads, but her consistency since then has shown she’s not just a one-tournament wonder. Backed by strong mental conditioning and support from the national shooting programme, Tilottama represents India’s future in air rifle shooting.

Kiran Pahal – Sprinting into the Limelight

From the quiet lanes of Haryana to national stardom, Kiran Pahal has rewritten India’s history in the 400m sprint. She became only the second Indian woman ever to break the 51-second barrier, clocking an outstanding 50.92 seconds. Known for her explosive starts and powerful finishes, Kiran’s qualification for Paris is more than just a personal milestone—it’s a signal that Indian athletics is on the rise.

Avinash Sable – India’s Long-Distance Torchbearer

In a sport long dominated by athletes from East Africa, Avinash Sable has managed to carve out a space of his own. His sub-8:10 performance in the 3000m steeplechase places him firmly among the top contenders worldwide. With a reputation for fearless racing and an unwavering work ethic, Sable’s approach to the Olympic season reflects both maturity and ambition.

Nikhat Zareen – The Boxer with a Champion’s Grit

Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen is not new to the spotlight, but her Olympic debut marks a new chapter. Competing in the fiercely competitive 50kg category, Nikhat’s power, speed, and ring IQ have already brought her international accolades. With her ticket to Paris secured, she now carries the hopes of millions dreaming of a historic boxing medal.

Parth Salunkhe – Rising Archer with a Giant-Killing Streak

Maharashtra’s Parth Salunkhe made waves by defeating reigning Olympic champion Mete Gazoz in a major World Cup match this year. A product of India’s growing archery ecosystem, Parth’s rise has been swift. Calm under pressure and tactically sharp, he’s already shown he can match the best in the world.

Antim Panghal – Wrestling’s Young Warrior

Just 19, Antim Panghal has already established herself as one of the top names in global women’s wrestling. A two-time U20 world champion and a medal-winner at senior Asian events, her fearlessness and speed make her a formidable opponent. Her Olympic journey is not just about qualification—it’s about chasing gold.

A New Era of Belief

What sets this new generation apart is not just talent, but preparation. India’s improved sports infrastructure, financial support, and access to international coaching have all played a role in helping these athletes thrive. Programmes like Khelo India and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) have enabled athletes to dream big—and train bigger.

As India eyes its most ambitious Olympic campaign yet, this new brigade is ready. They’re not going to Paris just to participate—they’re going to compete, to fight, and to win.
