India pacer Arshdeep Singh has landed in controversy after a viral social media video sparked allegations of racist behaviour towards fellow cricketer Tilak Varma during the ongoing IPL 2026 season.
The clip, reportedly shared on Snapchat ahead of the Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians clash in Dharamsala, shows Arshdeep joking with Tilak Varma while interacting with Mumbai Indians player Naman Dhir. In the video, Arshdeep allegedly referred to Tilak as “andhere” and joked about sunscreen, comments many social media users interpreted as racially insensitive.
The video quickly went viral, triggering widespread criticism online. Several fans accused the Punjab Kings pacer of crossing the line between harmless banter and offensive remarks. Some users called the comments “insensitive,” while others demanded disciplinary action against the left-arm fast bowler.
However, a section of fans also defended Arshdeep, arguing that the exchange appeared to be friendly banter between players who know each other well. Neither Arshdeep Singh nor Tilak Varma has officially commented on the controversy so far.
The incident has once again brought attention to cricketers’ social media behaviour during IPL 2026. Reports suggest that the BCCI had recently reminded players and support staff about maintaining discipline and responsible conduct on digital platforms.
This is also not the first time Arshdeep’s online content has attracted scrutiny. Earlier in the season, one of his vlog videos reportedly sparked debate after showing fellow cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal vaping inside an aircraft.
