Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, attended a special screening of the documentary ‘Bicharpur – Junoon Football Ka’ in New Delhi on May 7, 2026. The film showcases inspiring stories of grassroots football and its transformative impact on communities.
Sports as a Way of Life
Addressing the gathering after the screening, Dr. Mandaviya emphasised that sports go far beyond competition. He described sports as a powerful tool that instils culture, discipline, mental strength, and collective spirit among the youth.
“Twenty-five years ago, many youngsters were moving in the wrong direction, but when they became connected with sports, their lives changed. Sports gives direction to young leaders and channels their energy positively,” the Minister said.
Community Impact and National Pride
The Minister cited the Kodava community of Coorg and their deep-rooted hockey culture as a shining example of how community-driven sports foster unity, discipline, and national pride. He noted that while individuals pursue sports for personal growth, they ultimately bring glory to the nation.
Importance of Documentation and Recognition
Dr. Mandaviya stressed the need to document grassroots sporting journeys, saying that such stories become inspirational for future generations. He also highlighted the value of recognising talent, which builds confidence among young athletes and contributes to national development.
