Ghana have dismissed head coach Otto Addo just over two months before the start of the FIFA World Cup, following a run of disappointing results in international friendlies.
The decision was confirmed by the Ghana Football Association, which announced that it had “parted ways with the head coach of the senior men’s national team effective immediately.”
The move comes after the Ghana national football team suffered four consecutive defeats, raising concerns about the team’s preparedness for football’s biggest stage.
Addo’s exit throws Ghana’s World Cup preparations into uncertainty, with the tournament fast approaching. The federation now faces a race against time to appoint a successor capable of stabilising the squad and restoring confidence before the opening match.
The former Borussia Dortmund assistant had been tasked with guiding Ghana through a transitional phase, blending experienced campaigners with emerging talent. However, recent performances failed to meet expectations, with defensive lapses and a lack of attacking cohesion exposed during the friendly defeats.
Despite the setback, Ghana remain hopeful of regrouping quickly. Officials indicated that plans are already underway to name an interim or permanent coach in the coming days, aiming to give the new leadership sufficient time to assess players and fine-tune tactics.
The Black Stars, four-time African champions, will be eager to avoid a repeat of recent struggles and deliver a stronger showing when the World Cup kicks off.
