The future of the VR46 Racing Team in MotoGP is becoming clearer as the squad edges closer to renewing its partnership with Ducati, despite interest from Aprilia for the 2027 season.
Founded by MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, the team has become a strong presence on the grid with Ducati machinery. As the championship prepares for a major rules change in 2027—introducing new 850cc engines—manufacturers have begun planning their satellite team line-ups.
Aprilia’s Interest
Italian manufacturer Aprilia reportedly approached VR46 about a possible collaboration for the new era of MotoGP. The move would have given Aprilia a high-profile satellite team capable of strengthening its competitiveness and data collection on the grid.
However, VR46’s long-standing relationship with Ducati appears to have the upper hand in negotiations. The team currently races Ducati’s Desmosedici machines and enjoys strong technical support, making continuity the most logical option.
Ducati Deal Imminent
Sources suggest a new agreement between VR46 and Ducati is close to being finalised, potentially securing the partnership well into the next technical era beginning in 2027. Ducati has dominated MotoGP in recent years, making it an attractive alliance for Rossi’s team as they aim to remain competitive.
Stability for the Next Era
If the deal is confirmed, VR46 will continue its journey alongside Ducati during one of MotoGP’s most significant regulation changes. While Aprilia explored the possibility of a new partnership, Rossi’s team seems set to stick with the manufacturer that has powered much of its success on the grid.
