Leeds Storm into FA Cup Quarter-finals After 23-Year Wait

Leeds United produced a dominant attacking display to defeat Norwich City 3–0 and reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time in 23 years at Elland Road.

Goals from Sean Longstaff, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Joël Piroe ensured a comfortable victory for Leeds as they joined English giants such as Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, Manchester City FC and Arsenal FC in the last-eight draw scheduled for Monday.
Leeds took control midway through the first half when Longstaff produced a brilliant volley after expertly controlling Gudmundsson’s cross.

The home side doubled the advantage just before the break when Gudmundsson pounced inside the box, prodding home after the Norwich defence failed to clear Dan James’ cross.

Norwich struggled to threaten their Premier League opponents in the opening period, managing their first attempt only late in the half when Ali Ahmed dragged a low shot wide.

The visitors improved after the restart and tested Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri when Kenny McLean unleashed a long-range effort that was smartly saved. Norwich then came close to pulling one back as Errol Mundle-Smith set up Anis Ben Slimane, but the midfielder’s effort struck the outside of the post.

Despite a spirited spell from the visitors, Leeds sealed the result five minutes from time when Dutch forward Piroe curled a superb left-footed strike past substitute goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic.

The victory marks Leeds’ first FA Cup quarter-final appearance since the 2002–03 season. Manager Daniel Farke, watching from the stands due to a touchline ban, made several changes to the lineup following a disappointing Premier League defeat to Sunderland AFC earlier in the week.

The rotated squad responded impressively, overpowering a Norwich side that had been in strong form under coach Philippe Clement.
The result also extends Leeds’ remarkable record in the competition, with the club progressing from each of their last seven FA Cup ties against lower-division teams.

Leeds will now await their quarter-final opponents when the draw takes place ahead of the clash between West Ham United FC and Brentford FC. Farke’s side will then shift focus back to the Premier League survival battle with an away trip to Crystal Palace FC.

Elsewhere in the FA Cup, Southampton FC became the first Championship side to reach the last eight after beating Fulham FC, while League One outfit Port Vale FC stunned Sunderland AFC in one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.
