Can India’s Young Guns Dominate the U19 World Cup? Vihaan’s Century Steers India to Convincing Win Over Zimbabwe

India’s Under-19 cricket team delivered a commanding performance in their ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 Super Six encounter against hosts Zimbabwe, with a brilliant century from vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra setting the tone for a comprehensive win, according to Sportstar. The Indian batting lineup put up a formidable 352/8 in their allotted 50 overs, leaving Zimbabwe with a challenging target in front of them.

After Zimbabwe elected to field first at Queens Sports Club, India’s innings began on a positive note. Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided an explosive start, racing to 52 runs off just 30 balls with powerful strokeplay that included multiple boundaries and sixes, putting early pressure on the Zimbabwe bowlers.

However, it was Vihaan Malhotra who seized the spotlight. Coming in at number five with India in a precarious 130/4, Vihaan displayed remarkable composure and control to anchor the innings. He built a crucial 113-run partnership with Abhigyan Kundu, who contributed a fluent 61, stabilising India’s middle phase and shifting momentum decisively in India’s favour.

Vihaan reached his century in 104 balls, completing his maiden hundred of the tournament and finishing unbeaten on 109 runs, a knock filled with smart shot selection and controlled aggression. It was the first century scored by an Indian in the ongoing U19 World Cup and came at a crucial juncture that helped India post a challenging total.

Reflecting on his innings, Malhotra said (as reported by Sportstar), “The plan was to build partnerships and rotate the strike. I stayed focused on each delivery and backed my process throughout.”

Support from the lower order, including valuable cameos from R.S. Ambrish and Khilan Patel, helped India maintain momentum and finish strongly at the end of their innings.

In response, Zimbabwe struggled to cope with India’s imposing total. Early breakthroughs from the Indian bowlers put the hosts on the back foot, and despite sporadic resistance, they were unable to build sustained partnerships. India’s bowlers, including standout performances from Ayush Mhatre and Udhav Mohan, eventually skittled Zimbabwe out for 148, securing a comprehensive 204-run victory and keeping India’s unbeaten run in the tournament intact.

This dominant win, spearheaded by Vihaan’s clinical century and backed by strong batting contributions up and down the order, highlights India’s growing confidence and depth as they aim to maintain momentum in the Super Six stage of the U19 World Cup.
