The Hundred will stage its first-ever player auction in London across two days on 11 and 12 March, marking a major change in how squads are formed.
The move follows heavy private investment in the competition, ending the draft system that had been used for the first five seasons.
Shift to auction-based system
Previously, players were allocated to teams through a salary-tier draft format.
However, from 2026, players who are not already signed or retained will have their teams and salaries decided through an auction.
The new system mirrors the model used in the Indian Premier League and other major T20 leagues.
Influence of new investors
The change has been driven by new franchise owners, many of whom are linked to IPL teams.
Four Hundred sides are now part-owned by IPL groups, including MI London, Sunrisers Leeds and Manchester Super Giants.
Southern Brave, backed by Delhi Capitals, remain under their original name.
Separate auctions for men and women
The women’s auction will take place on 11 March, followed by the men’s auction on 12 March.
Franchises were allowed to retain or sign up to four players before the auction.
Squads will consist of 16 to 18 players, with a salary cap and minimum spending requirement in place.
Increased salary budgets announced
The men’s salary pot for 2026 has risen by 45% to £2.05m per team.
The women’s budget has doubled to £880,000, while the minimum female salary has increased to £15,000.
The number of overseas players allowed in each squad has also risen from three to four.
2026 season schedule confirmed
The sixth edition of The Hundred will run from 21 July to 16 August.
The opening double-header will be held at The Oval between MI London and Sunrisers Leeds.
A total of 64 group-stage matches will be played across men’s and women’s competitions.
Finals and broadcast coverage
The final round of group games is scheduled for 12 August, followed by the Eliminator and the final on 16 August.
Both matches will have reserve days in case of bad weather.
